Set high on a ridge above Dee Why, Narraweena is known for mainly being a family-oriented suburb and tends to attract second home buyers who are upsizing from an apartment to a house. Located 18kms from Sydney’s CBD, it has a population of just over 5,000 people and boasts wide streets and a nice park and is only a short drive to Dee Why beach and Brookvale Shopping centre.

History

Thought to be named after an Aboriginal word that means “quiet place in the hills”, Narraweena developed as a residential area from the 1950s to the ’70s.

Narraweena has 2 schools, St Johns, The Apostle Primary School which is located on Alfred Street and Narraweena Public School located on McIntosh Road.

Public Transport

Public transport in the Narraweena area primarily runs along Pittwater Road in the form of buses, with services southwards to the City, Manly and North Sydney, and northwards to Collaroy, Cromer, Narrabeen, and the Pittwater area. The main bus stop for these services is located at the intersection with Howard Avenue. There are also semi-regular services to Chatswood via McIntosh Road to the west, as well as to Manly via Freshwater.
